About Us

Namosi Eco Retreat is 100% Fijian owned and operated.

Namosi eco-retreat provides guests with an authentic Fijian experience, combining culture and adventure with agri-tourism, at the reconstructed Fijian village from last centure. Namosi Eco Retreat is not a village tour and not a resort. It is an “unplugged” experience offering visitors the chance to get back to basics of life (no internet, phone or electronic equipment except a solar-powered emergency phone and lighting).

The remote location in the Namosi highlands (2 hours inland from Suva) is surrounded by misty mountains and the sparkling, chilled Luva River.

The retreat is a reconstructed, traditional village comprising 10 authentic-style Fijian Bures and the large dining hall (Valenikana), all handcrafted by local people using Fijian building methods and materials.

The Fijian retreat team takes pride in educating people about their culture and sharing their traditional and modern cuisine and farming lifestyle.

For visitors, the experience is about the tranquillity of the venue; swapping modern electronics, emails and social media access for nature and enjoying mountain hiking, river swimming, bilibili bamboo rafting, harvesting food for dinner, and getting 'back to nature'.

The Bures are small and simple, handmade using bamboo and palm leaves. This means that each Bure is very basic – but with the added comfort of a modern bed and hinged-door! The separate Bathroom Bure has flush toilets and showers.

All food is Fijian, mixing modern and traditional meals. Guests are served home grown Fijian foods especially root crops and vegetables that are grown on-site, plus fresh fish and prawns from the river whenever possible. Guests are welcome to help harvest and cook the foods in the authentic way.

There is no shortage of activities. These include mountain hiking, bilibili bamboo rafting, weaving and craft making, bird watching, and farming (you can even help harvest food for dinner that night!). Enjoy kava and Talanoa sessions (storytelling) with the locals or try a cooking lesson to create Fijian dishes to impress back home.

A land of legends. Legends abound about the tough Namosi locals who have lived in the mountainous highlands for many hundreds of years. Even today people in Namosi farm on mountainside land, toiling in fields on steep mountain slopes.

In Namosi Province you enter the "old" Fiji. Here you will meet people living in remote communities without internet or mobile phone access, and who are still mostly reliant on subsistence farming to live a simple, happy and healthy lifestyle. Villagers farm vegetables and root crops plus they catch prawns, eels and fish from the river for daily food to eat. Kava is a traditional ceremonial drink that is popular in Fiji, with Kava crops being the main source of income for most families in the nearby Navunikabi Village.

Navunikabi Village is famous for its rich, mountainous farmlands that provide local produce for guests at the retreat. The village has a strong family atmosphere that welcomes visitors into its community.
